Authorities say a state prison inmate who failed to return from his work-release job is back in custody. Thirty-four-year-old Lalo Montoya was supposed to return to the Yankton Community Work Center Friday following an appointment with his employer. Escape procedures were enacted when he failed to return on time.

One person is left with serious injuries after crashing his car into the side of a house early Wednesday morning. Police were first called to the area of 2nd Street and Leadale Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to police spokesperson Sam Clemens, a 21-year-old man was driving north on Leadale Avenue when his car left the road, hit the curb and grazed a tree in the boulevard.

Police say a crash in eastern Sioux Falls that scattered chunks of concrete across I-229 occurred after a juvenile female attempted to flee from authorities. It was 4:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon when Sioux Falls police and fire units were dispatched to a report of a vehicle on fire at the 10th Street overpass of I-229, according to a release from the Sioux Falls Police Department.

The person who died from injuries he suffered in a crash Wednesday near Spearfish has been identified. A vehicle driven by Richard Griffith, 47, of Whitewood, hit the side of a bridge on Acorn Ridge Road east of Spearfish, according to the Department of Public Safety. The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.
Watertown: Authorities say a Watertown man is dead after a bar fight last weekend. Codington County Sheriff Brad Howell says 40-year-old Jeremy Buol died Wednesday. An autopsy was planned, and the sheriff says more charges might be filed once the investigation is complete.

The two subjects entered Toppers Pizza just before 10:00 p.m. Police say one suspect distracted an employee, while the other pulled a firearm and demanded money. Police are investigating an early morning robbery at a Sioux Falls saloon.
Two accidents involving children have school officials and police in Rapid City looking both ways. Cars hit two children six days apart in front of Rapid City elementary schools this month. The Rapid City Journal reports minor injuries resulted in the accidents at Wilson Elementary on Wednesday and at Robbinsdale Elementary last week.
